Born and raised on planet Earth, we all face challenging times that can make life feel murky. In response, Scottish skater John Rattray launched an ongoing campaign called Why So Sad?, with a focus on raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. The campaign aims to encourage daily physical activity, like sports, as it can have a positive impact on our mental health.

The SB Dunk Low 'Why So Sad?' shoe was created as part of this campaign to uplift your spirit and bring attention to mental health struggles. The wear-away Swoosh fades over time from Coastal Blue to Speed Yellow, symbolizing the process we go through when dealing with emotional challenges and the work required to get back to a solid baseline of happiness. The campaign was born out of Rattray's personal experiences with depression and losing his sister to suicide in 2017. Why So Sad? aims to approach the serious subject of mental health in a lighthearted way through skateboarding language. Physical activity, particularly skating and biking, is a key element of coping and regulating our mental health, as Rattray believes that "mental health and physical health are not separate.
